Mode of failure. All plate fixation constructs showed a very similar pattern of failure with a break-out of the posterior-column screw in the buttress-wing of the plate and consecutive opening of the fracture gap (a) None of the screw fixation constructs showed a sudden failure in terms of an implant cut-out but rather stepwise implant loosening and widening of the fracture gap (b)
