Typical transient responses of a knee joint before and after meniscectomy. a Relaxation test: the joints were compressed by 800 μm at a rate of 100 μm/s prior to relaxation. The peak forces were 419.8 ± 129.1 and 187.4 ± 112.3 N (n = 6), respectively, before and after meniscal removal of the same joints (× marks the peak force for the meniscectomized joint). b Creep test: the joints were loaded to 500 N in 20 s prior to creep. The maximum knee compressions were 3.24 ± 0.70 and 4.56 ± 0.98 mm (n = 4), respectively, before and after the meniscal removal
