Rate of force development. Differences in contractile rate of force development (RFD) and rate of EMG rise (RER) for different time-intervals during hand and shoulder MVCs in workers with chronic pain and pain-free controls. A custom made dynamometer was used to measure maximal voluntary contraction strength (MVC) during isometric contractions performed for the shoulder- (external rotation) and wrist muscles (hand extension). Surface EMG was obtained from extensor carpi radialis brevis (during hand extension) and infraspinatus (during shoulder rotation). Mean (SE). * denotes statistical different from pain-free controls
