Table 1 Inclusion and exclusion criteria for participation

From: “So, you must understand that that group changed everything”: perspectives on a telehealth group intervention for individuals with chronic pain

Inclusion Criteria

Exclusion Criteria

Adults diagnosed with chronic non-cancer pain and referred to PEEP.a

Pending investigations e.g. magnetic resonance imaging, nerve conduction studies

Evaluated as safe to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity according to the ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription (American College of Sports Medicine, 2013).a

Communication impairments limiting ability to engage through electronic platforms

Access to and ability/confidence to work with a smartphone.b

  1. aPatients referred to the Chronic Pain Management Clinic have been assessed by a physician to determine eligibility for safe participation in the group and moderate physical activity. The ACSM Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription (American College of Sports Medicine, 2013) guidelines include the following contra-indications for exercise prescription: recent acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, ventricular tachycardia and other dangerous dysrhythmias, dissecting aortic aneurysm, acute congestive heart failure, severe aortic stenosis, active or suspected myocarditis or pericarditis, thrombophlebitis, recent systemic or pulmonary embolism, acute infection
  2. bThis criterion was needed since the aim of the study was to determine the acceptability and feasibility of ePEEP and the challenges with technology were investigated. We acknowledge there may be potential participants who do not have access, or who are unable to operate a smartphone. Those patients may be included in follow up programs and alternative measures will be initiated to address the barriers to access
