The expression changes of several key proteins (a) and genes (b) under chitosan treatment(n = 20). Compared with the control group, the expression of osteocalcin (OCN) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) in the chitosan group significantly increased (p < 0.05). In contrast, the expression of the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand (RANKL) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 precursor (MMP9) in the chitosan group significantly decreased. The OPG/RANKL ratio significantly increased in the chitosan group (p < 0.05)
