An investigator performs the passive straight leg raise test on a subject by flexing the hip while keeping the knee extended. The test is stopped when the knee starts to flex. Pairs of surface electrodes (not shown) were used to stimulate the hamstring muscles or record hamstring muscle EMG during knee flexion MVCs and during the trial without stimulation.
