An example of the measurement of the Hounsfield Unit (HU) value for a vertebral body to assess bone mineral density. The largest possible spherical region of interest (ROI, green line) that excluded the cortical margin was placed on the vertebral body. The center of the spherical ROI was set to be the center of the vertebral body on the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. The HU value of the ROI was then calculated automatically
