Table 1 Eligibility criteria

Males aged 20–40 years

Inadequate understanding of English

An ability to understand written information

Currently receiving treatment for osteoporosis

Willing to participate and able to give informed consent

A history of recent abdominal or pelvic surgery

Consent to General Practitioner being informed

A history of previous lumbar spine surgery

A BMI of <30

A BMI of >30

No history of low back pain that prevented normal activity for at least 1 day in the previous year

Any medical radiation exposure in the past year or exposure in the past 2 years with a dose greater than 8 mSv

Involvement in any other ongoing research study
